Scholar Mentor

POSITION OVERVIEW

The STEM Education Lead guides the educational experience of our Scholars through encouragement, positivity, and leadership. The STEM Education Lead supports the Scholars’ growth in the exploration and understanding of STEM fundamentals in a classroom setting. This position is vital to the academic and developmental success of our Scholars.

Compensation: $16.00-$18.00/Hour (D.O.E)

Commitment: 5-15 Hours/Week (Must be available some evenings and weekends)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Timely attendance of weekly team meetings held on weekday evenings

  • Timely attendance of weekly class sessions working with 4-12th grade students

  • Monitor student teams during classroom activities

  • Lead project-based workshops during class sessions

  • Provide support and answer questions from scholars

  • Maintain a professional and polished appearance at all class sessions, team meetings, and any Academy related events

  • Embody and promote the Square Root Academy culture and values.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have obtained or studying to obtain Bachelor’s degree in STEM related field

  • If still in school, must be in third year of STEM related program

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with children preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge of achievement gap and education disparity or desire to learn more and contribute to change

  • Passion for STEM education

  • Have a team-oriented mindset

  • Strong communication skills
